Today

Chronic disease workshop

A "Living Healthy with Chronic Disease Workshop" will be held from 9-11:30 a.m. at the Ayden Senior Wellness Center, 4354 Lee St., Ayden, beginning today and continuing each Tuesday through Oct. 22. The class is free; registration is required. Call 752-1717.

Hearing screenings, balloon rides

■ The Pitt County Council on Aging, 4551 County Home Road, will offer free hearing screenings from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

■ Hot-air balloon rides will be offered from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Cost is $5 per rider and all proceeds benefit the COA's home-delivered meals program. Call 752-1717.

Seniors club

The Winterville Senior Citizens Club will meet at noon in the Winterville Community Room, 2593 Railroad St, Winterville. The club will celebrate Western Day, and attendees are encouraged to wear their Western outfits. Also, there will be crafts, games, recycling birthday cards, good fellowship and other fun activities. There also will be door prizes, a healthy luncheon and a celebration for all club members who have birthdays during the month of September. Anyone planning to attend should call 355-2572 or 814-9012.

Free Closet

The Community Crossroads Center, 207 Manhattan Ave., will hold free closet events with gently used clothing, toys and household goods from 2-4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The center will also accept donations of items Monday through Friday. Volunteers are also needed to assist with the closet; to volunteer, call 752-0829.

Bone Appetit

The Humane Society of Eastern Carolina will host a Bone Appetit event from 5-10 p.m. at Wasabi 88, 1605 E. Fire Tower Road. A portion of proceeds will be donated to the HSEC to care for homeless and neglected pets until they find their forever homes. Diners should mention to the fundraiser to their server.

Chasing Coral screening

Sustain ECU and Love A Sea Turtle will host a series of events, including a free screening of the award-winning Netflix documentary Chasing Coral, from 6-9 p.m. on the Town Common. From 6-7:30 p.m. there will be youth project displays and food trucks and from 7-7:30 p.m. Zack Rago, a cast member in the film, will speak. The sunset screening will be from 7:30-9 p.m. More events featuring Zack Rago will occur throughout the day on Wednesday on the ECU campus, at River Park North and at other locations. Line dancing

Winterville Parks and Recreation hosts aerobic line dancing from 7-8 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Winterville Operations Center, 2936 Church St., Winterville. Cost is $3.

Bike club interest meeting

The Council on Aging, 4551 County Home Road, will hold an interest meeting for a biking club for adults older than 55 at 10 a.m. on Thursday. Call 752-1717.

Republican Women

The Republican Women of Pitt County will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday for a social, followed by lunch and a meeting at noon, at the Greenville Country Club, 216 Country Club Drive. The guest speaker will be Mark Robinson, candidate for lieutenant governor in 2020. Robinson delivered a speech to the Greensboro City Council on his right to keep and bear arms in April 2018, which went viral on YouTube. AARP fundraiser

The Greenville Chapter of AARP will hold a fundraising pancake breakfast from 7-10 a.m. on Saturday at Hwy 55 Restaurant, 1900 W. Arlington Blvd. Cost is $6 per breakfast with tickets available at the door. Breakfast will include pancakes with sausage or bacon, juice and coffee.
