AARP fundraiser

The Greenville Chapter of AARP will hold a fundraising pancake breakfast from 7-10 a.m. at Hwy 55 Restaurant, 1900 W. Arlington Blvd. Cost is $6 per breakfast with tickets available at the door. Breakfast will include pancakes with sausage or bacon, juice and coffee.

Food distribution

The Armor of God Christian Church, 2648 Mill St., Winterville, will host a food distribution from 8-10 a.m. The church distributes food to the community every Thursday and Saturday at this time and location. Call 689-6590.

Farmers’ market

The Leroy James Pitt County Farmers’ Market, 4560 County Home Road, will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Open paddle

A Time for Science offers open paddle on the kayak pond from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday at the Grifton Center, 949 Contentnea Lane. Cost is $10 per kayak rental. For more information email Sam Eubanks sam@atimeforscience.org or call 364-2862.

Chicken fundraiser

Winterville Baptist Church, 2593 Church St., will sponsor a Chicken-on-a-Mission Fundraiser from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4-6 p.m. Dine in, take out and drive thru are all available. Proceeds will benefit local missions. The event will include an auction of handmade items, wood crafts and quilts at 6:30 p.m.

Simpson Community Day

The Second Annual Simpson Community Day will be held from 3-7 p.m. at Simpson Community Park, 2708 Telfaire St. The event will include food, fun and music. Attendees should bring their own lawn chairs. Visit the Village of Simpson, N.C., Facebook page and click on “Events” for information.

Latino festival

AMEXCAN will host the 2019 Latino Festival from 11 a.m to 5 p.m. on the Town Common, 105 E. First St. The festival will feature games, food and music. The purpose of the event is to celebrate diversity and share cultures. Call 258-9967 or visit amexcan@amexcannc.org.

Veterans host bingo

The Veterans of Foreign Wars 7032 host bingo games every Saturday at the post headquarters, 1108 Mumford Road. Doors open at 5 p.m. and bingo begins at 7:30 p.m. Call 758-3251 for information between 10 a.m. and noon daily.

Brain health

The Council on Aging, 4551 County Home Road, will offer the next in the Nutrition Series on Brain Health from 3-4 p.m. on Friday. Call 752-1717.

Community Breakfast

The Interfaith Clergy will host a Community Fellowship Breakfast at the JOY Soup Kitchen, 700 Albemarle Ave. from 8-9 a.m. on Sunday. Other scheduled dates for are Oct. 20 and Nov. 17. There will be no breakfast in December.

Climate rally

A Climate Action Rally will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Elm Street Park, 1055 S. Elm St. The event is sponsored by the Climate Action Summit 2019, 350.org and the Sierra Club.

Interfaith clergy

The Interfaith Clergy of Pitt and Martin Counties will meet from noon-1 p.m. on Thursday at New Dimensions Church, 1700 W. Sixth St. For more information visit www.clergy2014.org.

BBQ Fundraiser

The Pactolus Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department will hold its annual BBQ fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 4, at the department’s main station, 5858 U.S. 264 East. The department requests donations of $8 per plate and all proceeds will go to support their work in providing prompt and effective emergency services. Food options will include pork barbecue or BBQ Chicken, cole slaw, red potatoes and hushpuppies. For information, contact 752-7162.

Heritage celebration

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, AMEXCAN will host a Hispanic Heritage Celebration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 5 at Wellcome Middle School, 3101 N. Memorial Drive.
