Food distribution

The Armor of God Christian Church of Winterville will host a food distribution from 8-10 a.m at 2648 Mill St., Winterville. The church distributes food to the community every Thursday and Saturday at this time and location. Call 689-6590.

COA events

The Council on Aging, 4551 County Home Road, will hold three events today: a free Community Shred Event from 9 a.m.-noon., an Adopt-a-Pet event from 10 a.m.-noon and free hearing screenings from 10 a.m.-noon. The shred event, sponsored by Brookdale Assisted Living, is for residential customers only and there will be a five bag/box limit. No three-ring binders. Call 752-1717.

Seniors program

Vidant Health will offer a session on “Pumpkin ... More than Just Pie” presented by the Pitt County Health Department at 10:30 a.m. at the McConnell-Raab Hope Lodge, 930-A Wellness Drive. Call Mary Hall at 847-0550.

Fire Safety

Greenville Fire/Rescue will hold a special “Fire Safety Stations” event at 10:30 a.m. at the Carver Branch Library, 618 W. 14th Ave. Children will be able to explore five different fire safety games, and they will learn about how to call 911, what a smoke alarm sounds like and what to do if there is a fire at their house. Mended Hearts

Mended Hearts of Eastern N.C., a support group for cardiac patients and their caregivers, will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Vidant Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center, 2470 Statonsburg Road. PFLAG

Pancake dinner

The Winterville Kiwanis Club will hold a pancake dinner from 5-7 p.m. on Friday in the school cafeteria at D.H. Conley High School, 2006 Worthington Road. All proceeds will go to the school. Contact Tony Moore at Tony.moore@wintervillenc.com.

Chess celebration

A National Chess Day celebration will be held from noon-4 p.m. on Saturday at the Pitt County Senior Center, 4551 County Home Road. Hosted by the Pitt County Council on Aging Chess Club, the event will feature open play for area clubs, schools and individuals, along with a display of assorted chess puzzles and unique chess sets. Meal delivery training
