As a family doctor since 1964, I have been called into court on several occasions to testify regarding the removal of children from their biological parents. In fact all over America, social services facilitates the removal of many children from their homes every day, a process that can be initiated by anyone but most often begins with the children themselves or teachers and coaches.

Obviously when a parent is incarcerated for any reason, children must be cared for, and initially other family members and relatives are called upon by the courts. Granted, in many instances the accusations are unsubstantiated. Nevertheless, doctors lawyers and social service workers involved will all agree that this work is a vital part of our ameliorative institution for a long time to come if not forever.

As a matter of fact, the bringing up of all human beings turns out to be just as important as genetics when it comes to the ultimate physical and mental behavior of each and every one of us, regardless of the current identity politics running rampant in our republic today.

The U.S. economy continues to show strength in the wake of tax reform and deregulation, but the downside of robust growth is that Donald Trump thinks this means he can dabble at trade war with impunity. He ought to look at the signs that growth would be even stronger if not…

Judge Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation hearings to be a Supreme Court justice will take place in the shadow of the nomination of John Roberts to be chief justice 13 years ago.

Roberts was confirmed on a 78-22 vote in 2005. That's the most votes any justice has received for more than two decades. But…
