Pitt softball falls to top seed

Jones County (Miss.) proved why it got the top seed at the softball National Junior College Athletic Association Division II World Series tournament Wednesday afternoon, beating No. 16 seed Pitt Community College 10-2 in five innings to drop PCC to the losers’ bracket.
The Bulldogs (25-13) will play again today at 2:30 p.m. in the double-elimination tourney being held in Clinton, Miss.
PCC’s Taylor Niemotka hit a home run in the top of the fifth inning. She also drove in Pitt’s other run, hitting a single in the top of the second to score Peyton Taylor for the Bulldogs to trail 3-1.
Autumn Frost recorded her 20th and 21st home runs of the season for Jones (50-2), including a two-run shot during a seven-run bottom of the third for a 10-1 lead.
