Pitt County Post 39 advanced to the Area One East Championship Series after a 12-9 triumph versus Kinston Post 43, completing a three-game sweep in the best-of-five Area One East second-round playoff series.

Post 39 exploded for six runs in the second inning, mostly off of walks and erratic pitching as three batters were plunked in the inning and three were walked.

Designated hitter Robbie O'Neal smacked a blast to deep right field for a two-run home run to push the lead to 8-4 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Later that inning, shortstop Robby Wacker and first baseman Ty’Shawn Barrett each had screeching doubles to left field to finish off the Post 39 scoring. Wacker's double scored leadoff man Drew Nichols, who walked to lead off the inning and advance left fielder Michael Crumpler to third on the play. The next batter up, Barrett, knocked both runners in with his double, giving the 39ers their 11th and 12th runs of the night.

Post 43 left fielder Tripp Creech hit a three-run home run in the top of the sixth to bring the deficit to 12-9, but that was as close as Kinston got.

O'Neal came in to close out the contest with a strikeout and two grounders to get the save.

Rayce Harrelson started on the mound and went 2 2/3 innings while recording two strikeouts.

Scott Mayo and Nichols followed Harrelson on the mound, going 1 1/3 innings and 2 innings, respectively.

Barrett and O'Neal each had three RBIs to lead Post 39, Wacker and catcher Josh McCarter led the team with a pair of hits each and Nichols, Crumpler, Caleb Morris, Easton Dally and Grant Charles Jarman each contributed a hit in the contest.

Post 39 scored 43 runs in the three-game sweep and did not have to extend its pitching staff more than necessary, something Post 39 head coach Ryan Meadows was very happy about.

"Anytime that you can save some arms, that's ultimately want you want to do," Meadows said. "The last time that we had a few days off our guys did a great job of taking care of their minds and their bodies and came out and played some great baseball. We played about as well as we could this series and we took advantage of the opportunities that we were given."

Post 39 will await the winner of the Wilson Post 13-Wayne County Post 11 matchup, that as of Wednesday night, Post 13 leads two games to one.

If Wayne County wins, Post 39 will travel to Goldsboro for game 1 of the Area One East Championship Series. If Wilson wins the series, Post 39 will host game 1 at Pitt Community College.
