Pitt Community College’s basketball team eclipsed the 100-point mark twice this weekend, winning both games on the road to remain unbeaten in Region X play.
PCC won 107-103 at Davidson County Community College on Saturday and then edged Catawba Valley CC, 109-108, in Hickory on Sunday.
The latter contest needed overtime and the Bulldogs (9-4, 6-0) left victorious to extend their winning streak to four games. The team also improved to 5-1 in road games this season.
PCC led Catawba 54-49 at halftime and later upped its lead to as many as 13 points. It was 96-93 PCC during the final seconds of the second half when Byron Sanders made a 3-pointer at the regulation buzzer to force OT.
Saturday’s win at Davidson County featured the Bulldogs shooting 50 free throws. They made 38, led by Devonte' Pettaway going 13-of-15 and Timothy Downing was 7-for-8.
Pettaway, who went to North Pitt High School, scored 20 points. Ben Cox posted a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Pitt is off until its next Region X weekend doubleheader, hosting Guilford Tech on Saturday at 3 p.m. and then Bryant & Stratton College on Sunday.
