Matt Costello contributed 17 points and 15 rebounds, both career highs, for the Spartans (14-1, 1-1) four days after they fell 78-63 to the Hawkeyes in their Big Ten opener.

East Carolina’s women’s basketball team is at the start of a home-friendly part of its schedule, but the Pirates enter today’s 1 p.m. game against South Florida in Minges Coliseum stuck in a six-game losing streak.

Since winning their first five games, the Pirates (6-7, 0-1 American) have only one win while playing all of those games away from Greenville.

Today’s contest against No. 20 USF (7-3) is East Carolina’s third home game of the season.
