Oakwood fall sports teams donate to Vidant Health Foundation
Monday, December 4, 2017
The Oakwood School's fall sports teams, including girls volleyball, boys soccer, girls tennis, and co-ed cross country, donated $8,033.31 to Vidant Health Foundation Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice.
The money was raised through the Annual “For Life” tournament held on September 22. Oakwood has hosted the cancer benefit tournament for the past eight years and is the organization’s largest donor raising more than $50,000 for patient and cancer care.
Two Oakwood alumnae — Lauren Moore, Class of 2013 and Alex Arsenault, Class of 2011 — with the help of their volleyball teammates and coaches, started the tournament after both girls lost their mothers to cancer. This year’s volleyball team was proud to continue the tradition in honor of their coach, Tom Marsh, a cancer survivor.
“For Life” also features area schools to raise money in the fight against cancer. This year’s 2017 tournament participants included: The Oakwood School, Christ Covenant, Bethel Christian Academy and Pope John Paul II.
The Oakwood School is a Pre-K-12th grade, independent school in Greenville, NC. For more information call Athletic Director Amy Gardner at 931-0760.
