Proceeds from a benefit concert — to the tune of nearly $14,000 — were music to the ears of  two local charities that provided presents to needy children.

On Dec. 18 , Greenville Fire/Rescue, Inner Banks Media, and the Salvation Army held the second annual benefit concert for Pitt County Operation Santa Claus featuring the legendary band The Embers.

The concert was hosted at Reimage Church, whose space was donated by church staff. The concert was presented and promoted by Inner Banks Media, home to 107.9 WNCT and 103.7 WTIB.

More than 700 attendees celebrated the holiday season with old carols and new favorites alongside Frosty, Rudolph, and Santa himself.

Thanks to the generous sponsors Greenville Utilities, Taff Office Supply, Suddenlink, Steinbeck’s Men’s Shop, Spain Telecom and Fantastic Sams, every penny from ticket sales was used to buy toys and clothes for underprivileged kids in Pitt County through Operation Santa Claus and the Salvation Army.

Altogether, $13,801 was netted through ticket sales and donations.

Plans and preparations for the 2019 fundraiser already in the works and will be announced later this year.
