WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) — Teachers in the Brunswick County School District are getting a one-time $1,000 bonus to help offset the effect of state budget cuts.
The county board of education approved an increase in employee salary supplements and the one-time bonus during a board retreat Tuesday. District finance officer Freyja Cahill says the bonus will be paid in November.
She says the supplement schedule is competitive and will be used as a recruiting tool and to help prevent employees from leaving.
The supplemental pay varies based on employee level, education and seniority. Combined with the bonus, it will mean an up to 10 percent increase over base state salaries.
