FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Human remains found along train tracks near downtown Fayetteville have been identified as belonging to a local woman missing for two months.
Fayetteville Police Department Lt. Todd Joyce said Friday the human remains found Tuesday belong to Marcella Anne Thompson of Fayetteville. Authorities located additional remains on Friday.
The 39-year-old Thompson was last seen leaving her home Sept. 23 to run errands. Police later recovered Thompson's car after it was crashed by a man fleeing police.
The driver, Pierre Rouchant Lowe of Fayetteville, ran away after the Oct. 1 crash. Lowe was apprehended and charged with fleeing to elude a law enforcement officer and resisting a law enforcement officer.
Police have not named Lowe a suspect in Thompson's death. He remains in the Cumberland County jail under an $8,000 bond.
