FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — The district attorney will review a report by the State Bureau of Investigation about a Fayetteville man who died after police stunned him and decide whether to take any action.
The Fayetteville Observer reported (http://bit.ly/wISdMv) that the SBI turned over its findings Tuesday in the case of 56-year-old Michael Evans. He died in August after police stunned him with a Taser. Police have said Evans was jumping into traffic when they stunned him.
An autopsy determined that Evans died of a cocaine overdose with the electric shock as a contributing factor.
Cumberland County District Attorney Billy West now has the SBI report.
The death prompted police Chief Tom Bergamine to pull the X26 Tasers from the force for inspection. The Tasers were returned to officers in October.
