WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard is warning mariners that a pair of drawbridges in the Wilmington area will remain closed briefly for an annual road race.
The Coast Guard 5th District commander has issued a temporary change in the rules governing bridge operations to accommodate Saturday's 29th annual Wilmington Family YMCA Tri-Span 10K & 5K run.
A statement from the Coast Guard says the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge over the Cape Fear River and the Isabel S. Holmes Bridge over Northeast Cape Fear River will remain closed for all vessels from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Mariners able to pass under the closed spans can do so at anytime and should exercise caution when traveling through the area.
