‘Friday Night Lights’ debuts on DirecTV; ‘Pushing Daisies’ is back on ABC

If you’ve got DirecTV, you’ve got tonight’s season opener of “Friday Night Lights.” It’s on at 8 p.m. on the 101 Network.

The rest of us non-satellite folks won’t see the Austin-based drama until February, when it arrives on NBC.

It’s worth the wait, though, because the first two episodes are fantastic. Lots of good Coach and Tami interaction, and some great football action as well. And … Riggins and Lyla are hot and heavy.

For those who didn’t watch because the jiggly camera action proved annoying, you’ve got no excuse now. The jiggles are gone, except for a few shakes during the football scenes. Apparently the creative folks conceded that there was way too much jiggling going on.

Tami is now the Dillon High principal, Coach is torn between Saracen and a promising freshman quarterback and Tara is trying to battle her way to good grades and a college scholarship after her senior year. Good times.

“Pushing Daisies” returns/ premieres

If you missed it in its shortened first season, now’s the time to discover the most imaginative, lushly weird show on TV — “Pushing Daisies” at 7 p.m. on ABC.

The romantic fairy-tale drama, about a pie maker who can bring dead folks back to life but only for a minute, is gorgeous to look at and resembles absolutely nothing else on TV. Check it out.
