State GOP chairman speaks out
Some of North Carolina’s Republicans maintained their offices in Tuesday’s election.
The GOP retained five of its seats in the U.S. House, and the state also re-elected Commissioner of Agriculture Steve Troxler and Commissioner of Labor Cherie Berry to the Council of State.
In addition, Debbie Clary won the open state Senate seat in District 46, and Pearl Burris Floyd became the first black Republican to be elected to the N.C. House.
Conservative N.C. Supreme Court Justice Bob Edmunds also earned re-election, while Bob Hunter earned a spot on the N.C. Court of Appeals.
Chairman Linda Daves released a statement Wednesday, thanking volunteers and congratulating Sen. John McCain, Sen. Elizabeth Dole and Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory on their campaign efforts.
Daves also acknowledged the accomplishment of President-elect Barack Obama.
“From the time of our first Republican president, Abraham Lincoln, to the election of Barack Obama to the highest office in the nation, the face of our country has truly changed,” Daves wrote. “That this story is even possible is a testament to the fact that we live in the greatest country in the world.”
