RiverRock
My wife Marion and I made plans to visit the Pitt County Farmer’s Market for a veggie refill and then swing by the Greenville Town Common for a quick check of the RiverRock Festival this past weekend.
We knew what to expect from the Farmer’s Market but had no idea what we would find when we arrived at the Town Common on a warm Saturday morning.
The RiverRock Festival was just ready to begin when we arrived and, after securing one of the few shady spots still available on the grass, we plopped ourselves down for a listen, not initially planning to make a whole day of it.
That planning changed, though, when the first band performed and we found ourselves actually having a great time.
And If by some chance the music wasn’t good enough for us, between the acts we were successfully entertained by some alternative attention-getting acts. There was a hot -wing eating contest to see as well as an on-going karaoke contest. The karaoke contestant we had the privilege of hearing blared out an excellent rendition of the band Journey’s classic song Don’t Stop Believin’.
We actually did leave the festival for an hour. We had to go home and feed our three dogs and get some lunch. But we were having so much fun that we hightailed it straight back where we adopted another shady spot and caught two more bands in action.
Normally at these events I would be walking around with my camera trying to capture various moments for the next day’s newspaper and website. This time it was nice to enjoy it from a Greenville resident’s point of view.
