A recent walk down memory lane left me with the realization that I have had lots of fun in my life, I think.
I was cleaning out a bookshelf at home and stumbled upon a thin green and gold volume with no identifying words on the spine. When I pulled it off the shelf, I saw that it was the E.B. Aycock Junior High School “Green Echo” yearbook from 1974-75. The discovery stopped me in my tracks — and I had to make a cup of coffee and spend the next hour or so strolling back in time through the eighth grade.
Page after page of the “Green Echo” was filled with black-and-white photos of gangly young people I recognized from my youth. There were pictures of clubs and sporting events, pep rallies and classroom activities. I know I was there, and there are some photos that prove it, but I felt as though I were looking at scenes from someone else’s life. I just didn’t remember being there when those photos were taken.
