I recently dumped the contents of several out-of-season purses, searching for the checkbook so I could send in our annual payment to the Pitt County Tax Collector. I finally found it lurking in the bottom of a leather handbag in my closet. A quick scan of the check register showed that the last check I had written was last year, to the Pitt County Tax Collector.
It seems that personal checks are destined for the obsolete list, along with Model T Fords and 8-track tapes.
I still remember how excited I was when I opened my first checking account and began writing checks to pay for my purchases. I was in high school and making my own money — and having my own checking account made me feel like such an adult.
