Army retirees to meet
Army retirees will meet Saturday at Golden Corral. Breakfast begins at 8 a.m. and a meeting will follow. Call Tom Parsons at 252-355-2815 for more information.
Clubs reschedule gospel concert
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Pitt County will host a benefit gospel concert at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Jack Minges Unit on Fire Tower Rd. The original concert date on January 30 was cancelled due to inclement weather.
The concert is presented by Divine Anointing and also will feature The Discovery Church Praise Team. The concert is free for members of the Boys & Girls Clubs with a membership card. Admission is $5. Proceeds will benefit the clubs. For more information, call 252-355-2345.
Workshop to focus on aphasia
Strategies to improve communication with people with aphasia will be the focus workshop from 2-4 p.m. Sunday in room 1305 in the East Carolina University College of Allied Health Sciences in the Health Sciences Building on West Fifth Street. “Learning to Speak Aphasia: Family/Friends Module” will be presented by Maura Silverman of the Triangle Aphasia Project Unlimited in Raleigh. AARP members to meet
The Greenville chapter of the AARP will meet at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Pitt County Senior Center, 4551 County Home Road. Annette Eubanks, Regional Long-Term Care Ombudsman of the Mid East Commission, will speak. For more information, call 252-321-7440.
School board members to hold listening session
Pitt County Board of Education members Jill Camnitz and Marcy Romary will hold a district 3 listening session from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday in the media center at Eastern Elementary School. An update on school board issues will be presented and there will be a question and answer session.
Recovery video to be presented
The Mental Health Association in Pitt County will present the Journey of Recovery video during a Lunch ‘n’ Learn seminar from 12:15-1:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Farmville Community Center, 3886 Main St., Farmville. A sandwich lunch will be available at noon. The program is funded by the Pitt Memorial Hospital Foundation and is co-sponsored by NAMI of Pitt County.
Adult literacy orientation class offered
Literacy Volunteers — Pitt County will offer a student orientation class for adults interested in improving their English speaking, reading, or writing skills. The classes will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. and from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Feb. 15 and 17 at the LV-PC office, 105-A E. Arlington Blvd. Learners must attend all four sessions. Pre-registration is required. Child care is not available. Students will be matched with a volunteer tutor upon completion of orientation.
