A breakdown of crimes in a Greenville Police Department report offers specifics about a 17 percent decrease in incidents from 2010.
A monthly crime report produced for December contained 2011 numbers for all Part 1 crimes including homicides, rapes, robberies, aggravated assaults, burglaries, larcenies and motor vehicle thefts.
Reports of Part 1 crimes to the department in 2011 totaled 4,236, down from 5,135 the previous year. The total also represents decreases of 24 percent since 2009 and almost 27 percent since 2007.

The GPD can come up with
The GPD can come up with whatever garbage numbers they want to, showing whatever crime "statistics" that let them sleep at night. However, I have lived in Greenville since 1998, and I have never felt less safe in this town than I have the last two years. I am sure I am not in the minority with that. GPS, we are not stupid. Stop treating us like we are.

Just taking the press release from the GPD and printing it is not reporting- its copy and pasting.
Lets see the type 2 crime numbers. As has been mentioned a hundred times, police departments are down coding their crimes to type 2 crimes in order to look better with crime 1 numbers. This is quite evident here as the easist crimes to down code are larcenies and burglaries and sure as heck thats what you see here.
I wish just once the DR would look behind the numbers instead of printing a press release sent out as a GPD public relations piece.
Fortunately, the general population see these frabricated numbers for what they are- cooked.It too bad the Daily Reflector has its blinders on to true journalism and asking the right questions.
Lets see the number of type 2 crimes and thats where you will see all the numbers are dumped improperly
