Driver pleads guilty in fatal wreck

The driver in a 2009 alcohol-related crash that killed a passenger has pleaded guilty to felony death by vehicle and driving while impaired.

Carla Fouad Atallah, 24, of 721 Van Thomas Drive, Raleigh, entered the plea in Pitt County Superior Court on Monday afternoon. She had been charged with second-degree murder in the death. She also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor hit and run from a May 2009 incident.


She was sentenced to the maximum punishment of 36-53 months in jail for the death by vehicle charge, two years imprisonment for the DWI charge and 12 month probation on the hit and run. She will serve the sentences consecutively.
