The East Carolina University Police Department announced this week it has been certified by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
The department earned advanced accreditation from CALEA on March 23. CALEA has accredited more than 630 agencies across North America, with 63 of those at university and college campuses, a new release from the university stated.
The accreditation process required agencies to comply with 480 standards dealing with personnel practices, patrol procedures, crime prevention, community-oriented policing, investigations, communications and records management.
