Greenville police on Sunday confirmed a woman accused trying to drown a child in a bathtub last week was the boy’s mother.

Shaquia Powell, 25, of 304 Paige Drive remained in the Pitt County Detention Center under no bond charged with attempted first-degree murder.

The incident occurred about 12:30 p.m. Friday at her home, according to a news release issued Sunday. Officers were called to the home to investigate a report of child abuse.
