A man was arrested Friday and charged with assaulting a convenience store employee while trying to take wine and pastries, according to a Greenville Police Department report released Monday.
Sammuel Sims, 56, of 704 Cherry St. was charged with damage to personal property, shoplifting and simple assault. He was arrested at the store. According to the report, Sims walked in Andy's Stop and Go, 1308 W. 14th Ave., shortly before 11:30 a.m. and tried to take five bottles of wine valued together at $15.50 and three Tasty Cakes valued at $1.
An altercation started between Sims and the store's 50-year-old male clerk, the report said. The clerk suffered minor injuries. The groceries were damaged during the scuffle, the report said.
