A man who fatally shot his 3-year-old son then shot himself Friday night called the child’s mother and told her he was going to do it, the mother told officials with the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Neil Elks said Carey Adams Jr., 34, called his estranged wife prior to the incident at 1072 Wiley Gaskins Road. Adams, also known as “CJ,” reportedly said during the phone call that the woman had hurt him and he was going to do the same to her.
Deputies responded to the man’s residence about 10:03 p.m., according to spokesperson Christy Wallace.
