The body of an East Carolina University student caught in a rip current Saturday at Pine Knoll Shores was recovered on Sunday, officials reported today.
Braxton Horton, 19, of Raleigh was with a group of friends in the ocean at 4:37 p.m. on Saturday when he began struggling in the current, Pine Knoll Shores Mayor Ken Jones said. Rescue crews shifted their efforts to recovery after about three hours.
His body was recovered at 7:05 p.m. Sunday about 200 yards east of where he was last seen in the water near the Trinity Center, 618 Salter Path Road, Jones said.
