The Pitt County Democratic Party recently held a grand-opening celebration at its Democratic headquarters in the Charles Boulevard Shoppes at 1011-E Charles Blvd. Those participating included, from left, Neil Elks, sheriff-elect; Calvin Mercer, Greenville City councilman; state Sen. Don Davis; Phyllis Johnson, standing in county commissioner Tom Johnson; state Rep. Edith Warren; Betsy Leech, chairwoman of the Pitt County Democratic party; state Rep. Marian McLawhorn; Deborah Barrington, register of deeds and Johnny Rouse, a candidate for U.S. House District 3.
