Traveling stunt team

Six local BMX riders are teaming up to form a traveling stunt team.

Greenville's Will Love, Josh Harrington, Alistair Whitton, Rob Darden, Marcus Tooker and Quinn Semling have joined forces to create a squad which will travel to stadiums, college campuses, concerts and other venues to show off some of their best tricks.

Planning for the team began in March. The date of its first performance has not been announced.

The performances will allow fans of the sport more opportunities to see some of BMX's top stars, Love, stunt team manager, said.

"By putting this team together, we really want to revolutionize the BMX industry by changing the attitudes of professional riders and spectators with a progressive and cutting-edge show," Love said. "Shows bring to BMX a whole different audience. This creates vast opportunities to promote ourselves. We have talked with so many people who love to watch us on TV and videos, and want to see us ride in person but can't always travel to contests, so we are coming to them."

Another Greenville resident, Mike Mancuso, has a tour of his own. Mancuso joins several other professional riders for a Christian-based demo tour called ProTown BMX.

Painful film

Harrington and Darden are back on their bikes after each suffered injuries while working on Harrington's recently released video "End Search" during the offseason.

The first to go down was Harrington, who broke his jaw in a tumble at Jaycee Park in January. The 24-year-old Greenville native underwent surgery, and is reportedly doing fine now.

Darden broke his wrist during a late February filming session at a Charlotte church. The 27-year-old was off his bike for six weeks.

Both riders are expected to participate in the fourth annual AST Dew Tour, which kicks off in June.

Along with Darden and Harrington, the video includes footage of Ryan Nyquist, Dave Dillewaard, Ty Morrow and Will Love.

Whitton feature

Whitton will be in the spotlight this month when he is featured in Fuel TV's ongoing series "Firsthand."

The show, which follows action sports athletes around the world as they try to conquer some of the best spots for riding, skating or surfing, airs on Sunday nights at 8.

Whitton's episode will be be broadcast May 11.

Other athletes featured this year are skaters Rodney Mullen and Mike Vallely, surfers Mick Fanning and Joel Tudor, freeskier Kristi Leskinen, wakeboarder Scott Byerly and fellow BMXer Fuzzy Hall.
