Want a way to celebrate Independence Day that doesn't involve a bunch of people at your house? Then head out with your friends to one, or many, of these July 4 events being held from here to Raleigh. Just don't forget to at least wear something red, white or blue.

Greenville

The City of Greenville and the Greenville Jaycees will hold its annual Fourth of July celebration beginning at 4 p.m. July 4 on the Town Common on First Street. Festivities will include carnival rides, arts and crafts, music, vendors, food and a fireworks display at 9 p.m. Free. Call 931-2854.

Farmville

The Farmville Development Partnership will host the annual Fourth of July Celebration on the Walter B. Jones Town Common. The event will begin with a ground-breaking of the Farmville Veterans Monument at 7 p.m. The Tar River Community Band will provide music, and radio personality John Moore will be on hand to provide additional music and emcee the event. Farmville American Legion Post 151 will sell hot dogs and soft drinks, and Piggly Wiggly of Farmville has donated watermelons. The food, including a large celebratory cake, will be available at the Town Common from 7-9 p.m. The fireworks show will begin at 9 p.m. For more information, call partnership at 753-4670.

Washington, N.C.

The July 4 celebration in Washington, N.C. will be held on the Pamlico River in Historic Downtown Washington on Stewart Parkway with music, dancing, homemade river raft race and, of course, fireworks, from 4-9 p.m. Visit www.visitwashingtonnc.com or call 948-9415.

Tryon Palace

Tryon Palace, 610 Pollack St., New Bern, will hold Fourth of July festivities from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. July 4. A dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence will be held at 11 a.m. from the Palace steps by costumed characters portraying famous North Carolinians from the Revolutionary era. Kinston Indians

What's more American than baseball on the Fourth of July? Kinston Indians will finish off a three-game home series against the Wilmington Blue Rocks at 7 p.m. July 4 at historic Grainger Stadium, 440 E. Grainger St., Kinston. Tickets are $6 for reserved seating, $5 for general admission $4 for reserved senior, student and military and free for children 4 and under. Call 527-9111. Fireworks are set off above the Town Common on July fourth.

Raleigh

Independence Day celebration will be held at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds, 1025 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh, at 3 p.m. July 4. Presented by The City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department in collaboration with the North Carolina State Fair activities will include interactive games, inflatables, live music and entertainment and a fireworks display at 9:15 p.m. free.

In the event of inclement weather, all indoor activities will remain as scheduled and all outdoor activities will be cancelled. The fireworks display will be rescheduled for 9 p.m. July 5.
