Today

Contradance

The Folk Arts Society of Greenville and the ECU Folk and Country Dancers will hold a contradance at 7:30 p.m. at the Willis Building, corner of First and Reade streets. A lesson will be provided with admission at 7:30 p.m. The Elderberry Jam Band will perform live music for the event. Admission is $5 for members, $3 for students and $8 for others. Call 752-7350.

Haunted hayride and rain forest

Check out the haunted hayride and rain forest at 7 p.m. today through Tuesday at Sunshine Garden Exteriors, two miles south of Bells Forth on N.C. 43. Cost is $5. Call 321-1555.

Jam Fest

The Greenville Police Department will hold its October Jam Fest from 7-10 p.m. at South Central High School's recreation center, 851 Howell St. DJ G-Money will play music. The event is for children 10-15 years old. Cost is $3.

Family Fare

East Carolina University's Family Fare Series will present "Alice" by Whoopi Goldberg at 7 p.m. in Wright Auditorium. Smart and sassy young Alice believes being rich will get her a giant house, fun times and lots of great friends. This play is about values for kids with songs, story and dance. It's an urban fairy tale that speaks to today. Tickets are $9 for adults and $6 for students. Call 328-4788.

Ayden theater

The Ayden Theatre Workshop will present "Murder in the Magnolias" at 8 p.m. today-Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Ayden Arts and Recreation Center, South Lee Street. It's a comedic murder mystery with a special tribute to Tennessee Williams. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Call 746-7002.

Fright nights

Magnolia Arts Center will present a Halloween film-fest at 7 p.m. at the Underground Cinema in the historic Jefferson Blount Harvey building. Hookerton Volunteer Fire and EMS Department will host a haunted house from 6:30-11 p.m. today-Saturday and Monday-Tuesday behind the fire department, off N.C. 123 South. The event will feature hot dogs, drinks and baked goods. On Tuesday, there will be candy giveaways for children 12 and younger. Cost is $7 for adults and $5 for children younger than 12.

Ghost walk

Take a one-hour ghost walk through historic Washington at 7 p.m., 8 p.m., and 9 p.m. today and Saturday and experience more than 200 years of ghosts, graves, murders, legends and history. Haunted house and train

Deadwood will hold its annual haunted house and children's train ride from 7-10 p.m. today and 7-11 p.m. Saturday. Cost is $5 for each event or $8 for both. Haunted corn maze

Griffin's Haunted Corn Maze will open from 7-9:30 p.m. in the Farm Life community of Williamston. The maze will be open through Halloween. It's located at 4975 Fire Department Road. Call 792-4811 for information.

Ballroom dance

The United States Amateur Ballroom Dancers Association will hold a dance at 7:30 p.m. in the Willis Building,corner of First and Reade streets. A lesson will be held from 7:30-8:30 p.m. and the dance will be held until 11 p.m. Admission is $5 for members, $3 for students and $8 for others. Call 321-3809.

Lobster fair

St. Timothy's Episcopal Church will hold its annual Lobster Fair from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on the church grounds, 107 Louis St. The celebration will include pony rides, games, food, arts and crafts, a bake sale, face painting and hayrides. Lobsters are $15 each and can be reserved by calling 355-2125 or by visiting www.st-tim.org.

Fall festival

A Place for Me daycare, 200 Laurie Ellis Road, will have a fall festival from 4-8 p.m. The event will include games, prizes, a haunted house, food, vendors and outdoor activities. Tickets will be sold for participation in activities. Call 355-3377.

Frightening concert

Frights and Pipes, a benefit for Pitt County AIDS Service Organization, will be performed from 6:30-8 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 401 East 4th St. Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the door. Call 439-0550.

Halloween carnival

Simpson Rural Fire Department will hold its third annual Halloween Carnival from 5-8 p.m. There will be food, games, a cake walk and prizes. Call the fire department at 758-6310.

Trunk of Treat

The Greenville Church of Christ, 1706 Greenville Blvd. will host "Trunk or Treat" from 5:30-7 p.m. Sunday. Participants will receive candy from volunteers in costume at various stations on the church property, which is at the entrance of Eastwood subdivision. The event will also include a haunted house, refreshments, games and cookie decorating. Call 752-6376.

The Farmville Development Partnership will hold Hometown Halloween in downtown Farmville. Old-fashioned Halloween events will include games, costume contest, hayrides and a haunted house. Call 753-4670.

Harvest events

Koinonia Christian Center will hold its annual harvest festival from 6-9 p.m. at the Greenville Convention Center, 303 S.W.
