So much to do

The Daily Reflector

Friday, April 13, 2007

Kick off the weekend with Uptown Greenville's ArtWalk from 6-9 p.m. today.

Stops include Moxie Clothing, Starlight Cafe, the Greenville Museum of Art and Emerge Gallery & Art Center and the East Carolina University campus.

Many venues will hold opening receptions for the shows. For example, oil paintings by Joshua Roche will be at Petticoat Pirate from 5-9 p.m. The Goldsboro native recently displayed his work at the Wayne County Museum in observance of Black History Month. His collection "All That Jazz" includes paintings of Louis Armstrong, Chet Baker and Dizzy Gillespie.

B.J. Swing, bachelor of fine arts candidate in photography, will display his work at the Fourth Street Wine Shop and Jefferson-Blout-Harvey Building. He will hold a reception for his show from 6-9 p.m. today.

Emerge Gallery & Art Center will have the sculpture "The Spaces In Between" by Adam Adcock in the Don Edwards Gallery, and Jennifer Drinkwater's paintings, "Rendering Gender," will be on display in the Harvey Wooten Gallery. Both are ECU bachelor of fine arts candidates. An opening reception for both artists will be held from 6-9 p.m. during ArtWalk.

If you that's not enough art for you, then check out the Uptown Arts Festival from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday.

The festival will feature North Carolina artists, arts organizations and Uptown Greenville restaurants at booths outside along Evans Street between Fifth and First streets.

Fine arts and crafts will be for sale and on display. Children's art activities and demonstrations will be held and restaurants will have food for sale.

There will be live music throughout the day, as well as a beer and wine garden located in the parking lot at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Evans Street.
