Snake facts
Goose Creek State Park, 2190 Camp Leach Road, Washington, N.C., will sponsor the program "Venomous Snakes: Myths and Reality" at 3 p.m. A park ranger will inform participants on how to identify venomous snakes and attempt to dispel many of the myths that are associated with snakes. West Side Story
East Carolina University's ECU/Loessin Summer Theatre will present "West Side Story" Tuesday-Saturday in McGinnis Theatre. Snakes alive
The North Carolina Estuarium will hold a "Snakes of the East" program at 1 p.m. This is a live snake program by Howard Vainright of River Park North. Learn to distinguish poisonous and non-poisonous snakes and understand one of nature's most feared creatures. Call for reservations. The estuarium is open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays. River roving
River Roving Educational River Tours are held at 10:15 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays and at 10:15 a.m. Saturdays. Free, but reservations are required. Children must be at least 8 years old to ride; an adult must accompany children under 16. The estuarium is open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students. Jazz music
Eclectic Gallery and Dessert Bar at Colonial Mall is offering live jazz music by The Dixieland Jazz Band from 7-9:30 p.m. each Thursday in June. Local award-winning artist Richard Wilson Jr., who has a working studio/gallery in the Eclectic, will unveil a piece of art in his jazz series at 7 p.m. The Eclectic Gallery is at 714 S.E. Fourth of July

A ceremony will be held in City Hall at 10 a.m. July 10 to recognize Greenville's recognition by the Sierra Club as a Cool City. Opening Reception
Emerge Gallery and Art Center will have its opening reception from 6-9 p.m. July 19 for its exhibitions "Greenville Brushstrokes" in the Don Edwards Gallery and "Art Center Extravaganza" in the Harvey Wooten Gallery. Anne Shirley, the vivacious redhead of L.M. Montgomery's famous "Anne of Green Gables" books, will take the screen in Bath on July 19 as part of its historical film series.
