The weather may still be warm but don't you fear, it's Halloween time both far and near.
There's much to do, especially if you like a good fright, festivies will be held now through Halloween night.
Have a look at our list, there's bound to be something that suits your fancy with all the corn mazes, haunted houses and parties with dancing.

Pumpkin carving
Emerge Gallery and Art Center will hold a night out for adults workshop "Jack-o-lanterns" from 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday. Participants will be provided with a pumpkin of their very own and led through a carving lesson allowing to them to create their very own specialized carved jack-o-lantern. Artists will assist participants, who will enjoy "Boo-tinis" as well as non-alcoholic drinks, and a sweet treat of pumpkin pie. Cost is $25 for members, $35 for others. Registration is required. The City Bistro

Costume contest set
The Marley Fund will host a Children's Halloween Costume Contest for ages 12 and under Oct. 27 at John's Gourmet Popcorn in Arlington Village at 10:30 a.m. All children will receive free popcorn at registration at 10:30 a.m., with judging at 11:30 a.m. and awards to follow. Eagle's Nest

Haunted cornfield & forest
Briley's will hold its annual haunted cornfield and forest from 7 p.m.-midnight today through Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Briley's is on U.S. 264 East by North Campus Crossing. The Great American Mining Company of New Guinea will hold a Miss HallowQueen pageant at 11 p.m. Saturday. Mistress of Mayhem Maynomi Juggs will host the event. Admission is $10. Howl-O-Ween
The Humane Society of Eastern Carolina will host its Howl-O-Ween Fundraising Festival from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Jaycee Park. The dog costume contest will have three categories, small dogs, medium and large dogs, and a couples contest. The entry fee is $5. The event also will include painting, pumpkin painting, a raffle, a bake sale, dogs available for adoption and a donation drop-off. A raffle ticket is given for a donation with a value of $3 or more.
Ayden Halloween event
The Ayden Community Policing Council and the Ayden Police Department will host its annual Halloween Safe Night Out from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 31 in the parking lot behind the Ayden Town Hall. The event will include games, prizes, a costume contest, a clown and candy. Call Greta Darden at 746-7016.

The Pactolus Fire Department will hold its fifth annual haunted cornfield at 8 p.m. today-Sunday and Halloween night. Admission is $5 and free for children under 5. Hookerton haunted house
The Hookerton Volunteer Fire Department will hold a haunted house today, Saturday and Wednesday on Main Street in Hookerton. All money raised will help benefit the Hookerton Fire Department to buy equipment. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for children. Doors open at 7 p.m. Visit the Web site.
Trail of terror

Deadwod haunted house
Deadwood in Bear Grass, 2302 Ed's Grocery Road, Williamston, will hold its annual haunted house and haunted train ride through the forest today and Saturday and Monday through Wednesday.
