Here's what's going on in area restaurant news:

New Wendy's

A new Wendy's restaurant, connected to the new Trade Wilco Station at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Highway and U.S. 264 East in front of North Campus Crossing apartments, is scheduled to open Feb. 7.

Kelly Durham, president of the Wendy's franchise group First Sun Management Corporation that owns the local restaurant, said it's the first time Wendy's has partnered with Trade Wilco to share a building. His company does, however, have two existing sites, in Jacksonville and in Georgia, that share a building with a Wilco gas and convenience store.

Durham said he's excited about the location and the partnership. "It has great visibility," he said. "And Trade Wilco runs good operations, with clean locations and great prices."

The Wendy's, on the west end of the brick building that also houses the Trade Wilco, will feature a separate entrance and a drive-through window. It will offer not only Wendy's full menu of hamburgers, chili, potatoes, salads and Frostys, but it will have the first Wendy's breakfast menu in Greenville. The breakfast fare includes Frescuit buttermilk biscuits, breakfast burritos, French toast sticks and blueberry muffins.

"It will look like a typical Wendy's inside," Durham said, with a full dining area and counter where patrons order.

Beginning Feb. 8, the Wendy's dining room will be open from 6 a.m.-10 p.m., with the drive-up window accepting take-out orders until 2 a.m. nightly.
