Here's what's going on in area restaurant news:
Bar-B-Cutie
Greenville's Bar-B-Cutie fast-casual barbecue restaurant, 610 Red Banks Road beside Moe's Southwest Grill, is offering a "summer savings" menu and has some new menu items.
"Summer savings" lunch and dinner offerings change weekly and may include BBQ sandwich combo for $3.99, hamburger steak plate with two sides and a drink for $5.99, roast beef or turkey with dressing plate and drink for $5.99, or mesquite chicken salad and drink for $4.99. Patrons may fill out a form with their e-mail address to sign up for the "Cutie Savers" program and receive an e-mailed coupon and information on specials.
New menu items include fried chicken, hickory-smoked sliced turkey breast, smoked sausage, sweet potato, sweet potato fries and ice cream brownie. Stuffed potatoes are now available in regular ($4.99) and large ($6.99) sizes.
The Little Cuties children's menu now includes hamburgers, peanut butter and jelly and peanut butter and banana sandwiches; items on the children's menu are $3.99 each. And youngsters who complete Bar-B-Cutie's monthly Family Fun Workbook receive a card for a free kid's meal and have their name included on the Cutie's Scholar sign.
In addition to take-out family packs, a catering menu also is available. Hickory-smoked barbecue pork served with a choice of two sides and buns is $4.95 for pick-up or $6.95 per person for delivery service and beverages. Other options include roast beef buffet, Virginia baked ham buffet, fried or grilled chicken buffet and beef brisket buffet; prices per person vary. Minimum order is 15 people.
Bar-B-Cutie also has begun offering a Loyalty Card. Patrons will receive a punch on the card for each meal they order; prizes for eight punches include a choice of sandwich combos, T-shirts or hats.
Bar-B-Cutie offers a meeting room that seats 25, available at no charge on a first-come, first-served basis, along with an outdoor patio shared by Moe's Southwest Grill. The restaurant has a drive-through window. Call 329-1BBQ (329-1227) to place orders.
Ledo Pizza
Ledo Pizza & Pasta, 3150-P S. Evans St. beside Best Buy in the Lynncroft shopping center, has some new additions to its summer menu.
The Taste of Florence specials include spinach salad with warm bacon dressing ($5.49; $6.99 with chicken added); Florentine Four Cheese oven-baked veggie sub ($4.99; $6.99 with chicken added); Fettucini Florentine ($8.99); Italian White Pizza with garlic-herb sauce and several cheeses ($5.74 for small) and Chicken Florentine White Pizza with grilled chicken and North Carolina-grown Roma tomatoes ($7 for small).
Ledo also is featuring three new wraps — hot chicken and cheese with new garlic-herb sauce; turkey cranberry and cheese with new garlic-herb sauce; and club with ham, turkey, bacon, cheese and mayo. Each flatbread sandwich is $5.99, with choice of side salad or fries.
Catering is available, and patrons may dine inside or on the patio. Hours are 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sundays-Thursdays and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays. Call 830-LEDO.
Farmers' market
Fresh produce available this week at the Pitt County Farmers' Market, 4560 County Home Road, includes: beans, cucumbers, blueberries, peaches, cantaloupes, plums, broccoli, ccabbage, collards, lima beans, herbs, local honey with the comb, pecans, a variety of squash, sweet potatoes, red potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, green tomatoes, turnips, radishes, white onions, spring onions and red onions. The market also will feature house plants, fresh-cut flowers, vegetable bedding plants, hanging baskets, preserves, homemade granola, salsa and breads.
A food demonstration featuring cantaloupe will be held from 8 a.m.-noon Saturday. Samples will be offered. A kid's corner will be available. The demonstration is sponsored by the Pitt County Health Education Foundation, Pitt Partners for Health, local farmers and the Pitt County Health Department.
The Pitt County Farmers' Market is open from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Fridays. Call 355-7612.
Wine tastings
Finelli's Café will hold a wine tasting from 6-8 p.m. the first Thursday of each month in conjunction with the artists openings at neighboring City Art Gallery. The tastings are held on the Finelli's patio, 511 Red Banks Road. Call 695-0020.
Nibbles
Pirate's Pub has has closed for several weeks and will reopen under new ownership.
Cubbies in Winterville, owned and operated by Mark Howard, now serves fried and grilled pork chops along with Cubbies' traditional menu of hot dogs, cheese burgers and cheese steaks. Cubbie's is at 657-D Worthington Road in Winterville. Call 353-0666.
CPWs currently is featuring a "Pubs of the U.K." theme, a celebration of great pub-style food inspired by owner Ralph Walton's trip to London last year. The menu includes fish and chips, Reuben sandwiches and Shepherd's Pie. Also, at a recent benefit, CPWs raised $3,700 for the Pitt County Humane Society. CPWs is at 2422 Stantonsburg Road in the Stanton Square shopping center. Call 757-7756.
