4-H workshops

Pitt County 4-H will sponsor a number of workshops for youth this summer at the Pitt County Agricultural Center, 403 Government Circle. June's schedule includes:

Beginner Fishing, 8:30 a.m.-noon Thursday for ages 9-15. Participants will go on a fishing trip. Participants should bring a hat and sunscreen and should have a travel permission form. Cost is $3.

Beginner Kayaking, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday for ages 10-18. Participants will go on a kayaking trip. Participants should bring a hat, sunscreen and insect repellent and should have a travel permission form. Cost is $10.

Through Butterfly Eyes, 9 a.m.-noon Monday through June 18 for ages 6-9. Participants will learn about the life cycle and habits of butterflies and will have a chance to view the insects. Cost is $10.

Intermediate Fishing, 8:30 a.m.-noon June 17 for ages 11-18. Participants will go on a fishing trip. Participants should bring sunscreen, closed-toe shoes, tackle and a rod and reel and should have a travel permission form. Cost is $3.

Fly Fishing, 8:30 a.m.-noon June 19 for ages 11-18. Participants will go on a fishing trip. Participants should bring sunscreen, tackle and fly rod and should have a travel permission form. Cost is $3.

Lamb and Goat Camp, ages 6-10, 8:30-11:30 a.m. or 1-4 p.m. June 23-27 at the Pitt County Fairgrounds. Participants will learn to care for lambs or goats and will practice proper showing techniques. Participants will have a chance to participate in a livestock show. Cost is $30, and preference will be given to first-time participants.

Egg Hatching, 10-11:30 a.m. or 1:30-3 p.m. June 25 for ages 5-14. Participants will learn about embryology and will get a chance to see eggs and baby chicks. The program is free.

Enrollment is limited, and payment is required in advance. Call 902-1710.

Swim season

The Greenville Recreation and Parks Department's City Pool, 1113 Myrtle Ave. near Guy Smith Park, will be open for the season from Saturday through Aug. 10. Entry fee is $1.50. Hours are 3:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesdays-Thursdays and 1:30-5:10 p.m. Fridays-Sundays. The pool is closed on Mondays. Season passes are $10 for children, $15 for adults and $25 for a family. 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays beginning June 10, story hour, East Branch Library, 2000 Cedar Lane. Call 329-4582.

1 p.m. Tuesdays and 11 a.m. Wednesdays beginning June 17, preschool story hour, Sheppard Memorial Library, 530 Evans St. Call 329-4581.

9:45 a.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning June 18, preschool story hour, Carver Branch Library, 618 W. 14th Ave. Call 329-4583.

2 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Thursdays beginning June 18, school age story hour, Sheppard Memorial Library, 530 Evans St. Call 329-4581.

6-7 p.m. the first Thursday of each month at ViQuest Center, 2610 Stantonsburg Road. Children participate in fitness activities and nutrition lessons built around the theme of the feature story. Free to ViQuest members and $5 for others. Participants must register the day before. Call 847-6501.
