Play auditions

Smiles and Frowns Playhouse will have auditions for the play "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" from Sept. 14-16 at the Ayden Recreation Center's Doug Mitchell Memorial Theater, 511 S. Lee St., Ayden. Dance classes

The Greenville Recreation and Parks Department will sponsor dance classes for children beginning the week of Sept. 28 at Jaycee Park.

Ballet and tap classes for ages 3-6 will meet from 3:30-4:15 p.m. Mondays through Nov. 30.

Mommy and Me classes for ages 18 months to 3 years with a parent or guardian will be held from 3:30-4:15 p.m. Wednesdays through Dec. 2.

Jazz and tap classes for ages 9-11 will meet from 4:15 p.m.-5 p.m. Wednesdays through Dec. 2.

Cost is $70 for city residents and $105 for others. Call 329-4567.

Teen Zone

Pitt County Community Schools and Recreation is sponsoring Teen Zone from 6-9 p.m. the first and third Fridays of the month beginning Sept. 18 and continuing through Dec. 11 at the Zone on Reedy Branch Road. The program is open to grades six-nine. Entry fee is $5, and no re-entry is allowed. Call 902-1975.

Bedtime story

Sheppard Memorial Library, 530 Evans St., will have bedtime story hour at 7 p.m. Sept. 22 for children ages 10 and younger and their families. Children may wear pajamas and bring a pillow or stuffed animal. Call 329-4581.

Sheppard Memorial Library will be closed Saturday through Sept. 7 for the Labor Day holiday. The following children's story hours are held locally:

6-7 p.m. the first Thursday of each month at ViQuest Center, 2610 Stantonsburg Road. Children participate in fitness activities and nutrition lessons built around the theme of the feature story. Special activities

The Greenville Recreation and Parks Department will sponsor the following special populations sports programs, beginning in September.

Craft Corner, ages 6-21, 6:15-7:15 p.m. Thursdays from Sept. 17-Oct. 22 at the Center for Arts and Crafts at Jaycee Park. Cost is $50 for city residents and $75 for others. Call 329-4541.

Friday Fun Nights, ages 10-18, 6-8 p.m. the second Friday of the month from September through December at the Teen Center, behind Sports Connection on 14th Street Extension. Cost is $2. Call 329-4270.

Picnic

ViQuest Center, 2610 Stantonsburg Road, will sponsor Picnic in the Park from 4-8 p.m. Fridays in September. The free event allows families to use the park outside the center for free. Families may bring their own food or purchase from vendors. The Sept. 25 picnic will feature live music. Alcohol and smoking are prohibited. Call 847-6076.

Night out

ViQuest Center, 2610 Stantonsburg Road, will sponsor Parents' Night Out from 6-10 p.m. Sept. 11. The event will include activities, games, food and arts-and-crafts for children. Cost is $20. Additional siblings are $15 each. Call 847-6076.

Playtime

Pitt County Community Schools and Recreation will sponsor Creative Play for ages 3-5, beginning in September.

Sessions will meet from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from Sept. 15-Nov. 5 or from 3-5 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from Sept. 14-Nov. 4 at The Zone, Reedy Branch Road, Winterville. Cost is $50. Registration deadline is Sept. 5. Call 902-1975.

Outdoor movie

The Winterville Recreation Department will sponsor Movie in the Park on Sept. 12 at Winterville Recreation Park. Movies are free and begin shortly after sunset. Call 756-1487.
