Quiz Bowl
The Sheppard Memorial Library Public Library Quiz Bowl will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Meeting Room A at the library, 530 Evans St. Participating high schools include: Ayden-Grifton, D.H. Conley, North Pitt, J.H. Rose and South Central. This is a question-and-answer academic event. The free competition is double-elimination. Call 329-4376.
Workshop
The Pitt County Arts Council at Emerge, 404 S. Evans St., will host a Bee Mine! Children’s Valentine’s Day Workshop, for ages 5-13, from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday. Participants will make a “Bee Mine” clay plaque featuring a honey bee design. A party will follow with sweet treats, popcorn and a seasonal movie showing of “Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown!” Preregistration is required. Cost is $20 for members and $40 for others, with a discount for siblings.

Music
Music Academy of Eastern Carolina, a nonprofit community music school at 1400 Red Banks Road, will have the following parent meetings in February.
Suzuki Guitar, 6 p.m. Feb. 9
Adaptive Music Lessons, 6 p.m. Feb. 16.
Middle school and high school jazz classes will be offered at 5 p.m. Mondays, beginning next week.
Music theory classes will be offered from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Mondays, beginning next week.

Arts classes
The Greenville Recreation and Parks Department will sponsor the following arts and crafts classes for children and youth at the Center for Arts and Crafts, Jaycee Park, 2000 Cedar Lane.
Drawing from Nature, ages 8-13, 4-5:30 p.m. Mondays from Feb. 22-March 22. The class is designed to improve drawing skills by drawing objects found in nature. Cost is $60 for city residents and $90 for others.
Little Leprechaun Clay, Tuesdays from March 2-30. Classes for ages 3-5 (accompanied by an adult) will meet from 3-4 p.m., followed by classes for ages 6-12 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Participants will create spring-themed projects. Glazing and kiln firing included. Cost is $50 for city residents and $75 for others.
Sewing Young, ages 9-15, 3:30-5:30 p.m. Thursdays from Feb. 25-March 25. Skills in reading patterns, using different stitches and using the sewing machine will be covered. Machines provided or participants may bring their own. Cost is $60 for city residents and $90 for others.
Young Potter’s Wheel, ages 10-15, 3:30-5:30 p.m. Thursdays from Feb. 18-March 18. Participants will learn the basic techniques of working on the potter’s wheel,.Costis $60 for city residents and $90 for others.

Night out
The Pitt County Arts Council at Emerge, 404 S. Evans St., will host a Kids Art Night Out for ages 4 and older, from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Feb. 12.
The event will have a Willy Wonka theme. Activities will include making an embellished copper “Golden Ticket,” decorating cupcakes and a showing of “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.” Cost is $25 per child for members and $45 for others, with a discount for siblings.

Estuarium
The North Carolina Estuarium, 223 E. Water St., Washington, N.C., will sponsor the following programs:
Children’s Decoy Painting Workshop, 9-10 or 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday for ages 4-12. Children will paint a miniature Bufflehead decoy.
This annual event is co-sponsored by the East Carolina Wildfowl Guild in conjunction with the Wildlife Arts Festival. This activity is free but pre-registration is required.
The Estuarium is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for students. Call 948-0000.
