Water aerobics

The Greenville Aquatics and Fitness Center will sponsor Kids’ Water Aerobics, for ages 7-12, from 10-11 a.m. Saturdays, beginning this week and continuing through April 3.

Students will run, jump and exercise in 3 to 4 feet of water. Space is limited. Cost is $10 for members and $20 for others. Call 329-4041 to register.

Music

The Music Academy of Eastern Carolina, a nonprofit community music school at 1400 Red Banks Road, will have the following parent meetings this month:

Night out

The Pitt County Arts Council at Emerge, 404 S. Evans St., will host a Kids’ Art Night Out for ages 4 and older, from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Friday.

The event will have a Willy Wonka theme. Activities will include making an embellished copper “Golden Ticket,” decorating cupcakes and a showing of “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.” Cost is $25 per child for members and $45 for others, with a discount for siblings.

Goose Creek

Goose Creek State Park, 2190 Camp Leach Road, Washington, N.C., has scheduled the following programs:

The Many Hats of a Park Ranger, 10 a.m. Saturday. During this one-hour program, come and talk with a ranger and learn what it takes to do this job.

Birding 101, 3 p.m. Sunday. Learn birding tips, and then watch birds at the birding station.

Arts classes

The Greenville Recreation and Parks Department will sponsor the following arts-and-crafts classes for children and youth at the Center for Arts and Crafts, Jaycee Park, 2000 Cedar Lane.

Drawing from Nature, ages 8-13, 4-5:30 p.m. Mondays from Feb. 22-March 22. The class is designed to improve drawing skills by drawing objects found in nature. Cost is $60 for city residents and $90 for others.

Little Leprechaun Clay, Tuesdays from March 2-30. Classes for ages 3-5 (accompanied by an adult) will meet from 3-4 p.m., followed by classes for ages 6-12 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Participants will create spring-themed projects. Glazing and kiln firing included. Cost is $50 for city residents, $75 for others.

Sewing Young, ages 9-15, 3:30-5:30 p.m. Thursdays from Feb. 25-March 25. Skills in reading patterns, using different stitches and using the sewing machine will be covered. Machines provided or participants may bring their own. Cost is $60 for city residents and $90 for others.

Young Potter’s Wheel, ages 10-15, 3:30-5:30 p.m. Thursdays from Feb. 18-March 18. Participants will learn the basic techniques of working on the potter’s wheel. Cost is $60 for city residents and $90 for others.

Junior Miss

The Pitt County Junior Miss scholarship program will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 27 in Wright Auditorium on the East Carolina University campus. Twenty-nine young women will compete for the title. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door.

Pageants

The 2010 Miss Eastern Carolina and Eastern Carolina’s Outstanding Teen pageants to be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Ayden Arts and Recreation Center on Lee Street in downtown Ayden. A pageant for younger girls is also planned.
