Arts classes

The Greenville Recreation and Parks Department will sponsor the following arts-and-crafts classes, beginning this week, for children and youth at the Center for Arts and Crafts, Jaycee Park, 2000 Cedar Lane.

Halloween Adventures, ages 6-12, 3:30-5:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Oct. 28. Participants will create Halloween projects. Cost is $50 for city residents and $75 for others.

Drawing From Nature, ages 8-13, 4-5:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Oct. 27. Participants will work to improve drawing skills by sketching objects found in nature. Cost is $60 for city residents and $90 for others.

Participants may register from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Jaycee Park office, 2000 Cedar Lane. Call 329-4546.

Winterville classes

Winterville Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor arts-and-crafts classes for ages 5-12.

Sessions for ages 5-8 will meet from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Mondays, Oct. 12-Nov. 2. Sessions for ages 9-12 will meet from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays from Oct. 13-Nov. 3.

Cost is $30 for residents and $40 for others. Call 756-1487.

Special activities

The Greenville Recreation and Parks Department will sponsor Friday Fun Night, for special populations ages 10-18, 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Teen Center, 1703 E. 14th St (behind Sports Connection). Cost is $2. Call 329-4270.

Youth fitness

The Greenville Recreation and Parks Department will offer exercise classes for kids and teens at the Greenville Aquatics and Fitness Center, 921 Staton Road, on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning this week and continuing through Nov. 5.

Muscle Up, ages 12-18, from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Get Kids Moving, ages 6-12, from 4:30-5:15 p.m.

Cost is $20 for members and $40 for others. Register at Aquatics and Fitness Center. Call 329-4041.

Emerge

Pitt County Arts Council at Emerge, 404 S. Evans St., will sponsor the following programs for youth in October:

Kids Art Night Out, ages 4 to 13, 5:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday. Participants will have pizza, watch a movie and participate in art activities. Cost is $25 for members and $45 for others. There is a discount for siblings.

Children's Jewelry Workshop, ages 5 to 12, 1-2 p.m. Oct. 17. Participants will learn to make paper beads and will create a bracelet. Cost is $20 for members and $40 for others. There is a discount for siblings.

Goose Creek

Goose Creek State Park, 2190 Camp Leach Road, Washington, N.C., has scheduled the following programs:

Tomahawks and Arrows, 10 a.m. Saturday for ages 6-12. Learn about the Native Americans who lived along the shores of the Pamlico River before Europeans came, including what foods they ate, what tools they used, and how they cared for their families.

Owls and Owl Pellets, 3 p.m. Sunday. Learn about the four species of owl found in the area and dissect an owl pellet to recover the bones of what was eaten, and then try to rebuild the prey skeleton, one bone at a time. Preregistration required; call 923-2191.

10:30 a.m. on first and third Tuesdays beginning Sept. 15, toddler story hour, Sheppard Memorial Library, 530 Evans St. Call 329-4581.

11 a.m. Wednesdays beginning Sept. 9, preschool story hour, Sheppard Memorial Library, 530 Evans St. Call 329-4581.

10 a.m. Thursdays beginning Sept. 10, preschool story hour, Carver Branch Library, 618 W. 14th Ave. Call 329-4583.

6-7 p.m. the first Thursday of each month at ViQuest Center, 2610 Stantonsburg Road. Children participate in fitness activities and nutrition lessons built around the theme of the feature story. The program is $2.50 to ViQuest members and is $5 for others. Participants must preregister. Call 847-6501.

Night out

ViQuest Center, 2610 Stantonsburg Road, will sponsor Parents' Night Out from 6-10 p.m. Oct. 16. The event will include activities, games, food and arts-and-crafts for children. Cost is $20. Additional siblings are $15 each. Call 847-6076.
