Greenville Fire-Rescue
The city's six fire-rescue stations provide fire protection, fire-prevention and emergency medical services within the city limits. Personnel are certified emergency medical technicians. Fire-prevention captains make annual inspections of all commercial buildings in the city and the extraterritorial jurisdiction. There are currently 140 firefighters/EMTs working at the city's six stations.

—Smoke detector program: 329-4390. The department has a program called Code Red Detection Control to install smoke-detection devices in homes of low-income residents within the city.
County Fire/EMS departments
County fire and rescue departments offer service outside of Greenville. Most of them are volunteer organizations. They are in most cases autonomous but coordinate with the office of Noel Lee III, Pitt County director of emergency services, 1717 W. Fifth St., 902-3950.
