How an 18th century farmhouse came to be featured in the N.C. Museum of History's newly open exhibit “The Story of North Carolina” is a tale involving anonymous donors, an airport hanger and a decade's worth of patience.
The two-room Robson-Moore-Whichard-Taylor House is one of the few remaining examples of a yeoman farmer's house, William McCrea, museum associate director wrote in the spring/summer 2010 edition of Circa, a museum publication. When it was discovered during a survey of early Pitt County architecture in the 1980s, museum officials knew it could play an important role in telling the story of the state's history, he said.
“Architecture is three-dimensional and being able to experience it by being in the space is very important,” McCrea said.
