Looking for something nice without having to pay the designer price? My Sister's Closet is the perfect solution to your fashion dilemma.

I recently visited the Greenville thrift store, which accepts donations of gently used clothing. My mission from Her magazine: Put together a wardrobe of outfits including one for campus or weekends, one for work or a job interview, one for date night and one for a spring wedding.

During my shopping spree, I encountered both the positive and negative sides of shopping at a thrift store.

While browsing through the racks, I noticed that they were well organized and fill with lots of styles and color choices, but finding things that fit me was a little harder than I expected. At a retail store, if an outfit is a little snug you can simply step out of the dressing room and pick the next largest size. At My Sister's Closet, there is usually only one size of each item, so if the one you like doesn't fit, you're out of luck.

Since the clothing comes from different people and places, you may not be able to find items that match each other, making it harder to find a complete outfit.

And some of the clothes are there because they don't just quite fit right or have shrunk in some areas due to several washes. Instead of slipping comfortably into my usual size 8, I found myself attempting to maneuver my way into a 10 or 12.

However, unlike the everyday retail store or boutique shop, the outfits I tried on were a fraction of the cost. None of my ensembles cost more than $20. And I even found Seven for All Mankind and Citizens of Humanity jeans, which usually retail for between $150 and $200 a pair, for only $12 each!

And the proceeds benefit the New Directions Safe House for victims of domestic violence, so when you shop at My Sister's Closet, not only are you discovering fabulous thrift store finds, you're also contributing to a wonderful cause that helps other women. Now that's a great excuse to go shopping!
