( other than just another rude attempt to trash the religious holiday's celebrated by both Christians and Jews around the world, because you obviously hate them )
4 more years, suck it up and take it
Pride, Ill give you credit, I saw your bibles, I assume for gifts. They were camouflage covers, and that was cool... Peace, and hope you get a chocolate egg. :) You too twitch..
We'd been doing Bible distributions this past week, 8 hotels and 4 nursing homes in Greenville. What you saw were personal New Testaments we share with members of the military. In my glovebox (and one in my pocket) you would have found brown PWTs (we call them "Personal Witnessing Testaments") for one-on-one (personal) distributions. Gideons distributed 78.9 million Bibles last year worldwide, one Bible (and one testimony) at a time...
P.S. (My grandson has already given me a chocolate bunny. It was hollow, but it was good! LOL.)
"My religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death. I do not concern myself about that, but to always be ready, no matter when it may overtake me." Maj. Gen. Thomas J. Jackson, 1862.
He claimed I was trashing the religious holidays.... as if my pointing out the origins of "All Things Easter" threatens him in some way.
It's not my fault that part of the celebration is pagan in origin. We do associate painted eggs and bunny rabbits and sunrise services with the Easter holiday. It's part of the tradition this time of year. If you want to ignore all the pagan elements, fine.
Just as it's your right to focus on the murder of God by humans, it is my right to embrace the spring-time festival that was co-opted. Yet still persists traditionally.
Bringing up Santa Claus, the Winter Solstice, mistletoe, decorated trees and gift-giving at Christmas doesn't mean one is trashing the holidays. It is traditionally part OF the holiday season. And thank god it is.
At least Santa Claus doesn't want to murder first-born children or thirst for bloody animal sacrifice. If that's holy, then what's evil?
So what is your point?
Good for you Louis.
I swear i try to be fair, Twitch is a local and has given his real name. Years ago his moniker was Twitching Lima. Reb and a few gals here called him lima bean. But he has a voice. But why attack Easter? I have no want to stir a pot on this board. Mikey, and Yogi have met him so thats OK for me. I would never talk politics with him, but would enjoy meeting him.
LOL, everybody go to your neutral corner for a minute..........
I don't see anything malicious in Twitch's comments..........Provocative, sure...........The kind of stuff which challenges, makes some think, and possibly even read some links or do some research............Opinions and BS are what makes the sandbox interesting.........And Mike13 is in no position to lecture Twitch about his grittiness or tell him to tone it down.........I do have to admit some surprise that some in this discussion are riled so quickly or exhibit a certain defensiveness.........vs. maybe a more thoughtful approach geared toward persuasion..........
Yeah, I've met Twitch.......twice..........Once at the Beer Summit, at Winslow's.........Me, Yogi, Loreli and hubby, Bill.........Cool folk, all.........Then we played golf at Aydenhurst one Sunday afternoon.......Me, Twitch, and Mrs.13.............Had a great time, never talked politics as I recall...........My impression is he's a cool guy.......
As for the discussion...........I never worried about pagan influence in our modern holidays............Seemed to me it was all about family and gratitude to God, so I didn't sweat the details........Still don't........I figure God knows my heart, my motives..........my meaning...........Can't fool the Creator, can we..........
He claimed I was trashing the religious holidays....

Twitch: "Christian Easter stems from a pagan festival"
& nothing could be further from the truth. Christian Easter stems from the resurrection of Jesus Christ after his crucifixion which occurred during Jewish Passover. Passover is a Jewish festival celebrating the Exodus of the Jewish people from Egyptian bondage. Jewish Passover begins on the 15th of the month of Nisan in the Jewish calender which happens to coincide with Spring in the Northern Hemisphere. Being that these events are celebrated during the Spring of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, Western culture has adopted traditional Spring symbols ( eggs, flowers, rabbits, baby ducks, etc ) as part of the celebration ( & usually it's for the entertainment of children ), but your claim that "Christian Easter stems ( aka: originates ) from a 'pagan' festival" is nothing more than your usual anti-Christian HOGWASH
