Health Tip: Biking With Baby

(HealthDayNews) -- If you bike with your young child on board, the American Chiropractic Association recommends you use a trailer, or rolling ride-along, hitched to the back of your bike. It's safer and more stable than a carrier passenger seat that sits directly on the bicycle.

Here are some other safety tips for biking with kids:

  • Use a screen draped over the front of the trailer. This protects your child against flying debris.
  • Use a trailer that has large, bicycle-style tires for added stability.
  • Protect your child's head with a sturdy, adjustable helmet that can be sized to fit properly. If the helmet rests too high, it will expose part of your child's head to injury.
  • For optimal control, bike on smooth surfaces.
