Police seek purse snatcher

Police are searching for the man who snatched a purse from an 82-year-old woman on Tuesday.

The incident occurred about 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Belk, 714 S.E. Greenville Blvd, according to a Greenville Police Department news release.

The woman was walking from the store when a man approached her, asked for directions and then grabbed her purse, the release said.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing light colored pants and a dark shirt. He was last seen in a green, four-door Toyota Corolla with damage to the rear passenger side and missing a hubcap.

Several assaults were reported by the Greenville Polce Department:

Officers investigated a report that someone burglarized a 24-year-old woman's house in the 2300 block of Jefferson Drive on Tuesday, assaulted her and threw her on a bed. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Police responded to a report that someone struck a 19-year-old female East Carolina University student and grabbed her hair, resulting in minor injuries, then threatened her at an apartment in the 4300 block of Bostic Drive on Friday.

Officers investigated a report that someone assaulted two men by punching and kicking them at a business in the 400 block of Hooker Road on Tuesday. Minor injuries resulted, police reported.

A 17-year-old male Rose High School student was reportedly punched in the face at the school on Tuesday, resulting in minor injuries.

Vehicle break-in

Police investigated a report that someone entered a 24-year-old woman's unlocked vehicle parked at a business in the 600 block of Southwest Greenville Boulevard on Tuesday and stole $180, a wallet and purse valued at $215, medications and a personal planner valued at $25.

Home break-in

Officers responded to a report that someone entered the window of a residence in the 300 block of Eastbend Drive on Tuesday and stole a vehicle transmission valued at $500 and a coffeemaker valued at $30.

Several larcenies were reported Tuesday by the Pitt County Sheriff's Office:

Deputies responded to a report of the theft of a black 2001 Cadillac Seville valued at $5,000 from the lot of Wheels N Things at 3129 Frog Level Road. The vehicle was later recovered, deputies reported.

Deputies investigated a report that someone forced open a door to the home of a 26-year-old man in the 7600 block of Pitt Street in Grimesland and stole a laptops valued at $1,000 and a video game unit valued at $100.

Deputies responded to a report that someone broke into the home of a 46-year-old woman in the 4400 block of Alan Place in Farmville and stole three laptop computers valued at $3,200, two handguns valued at $1,000 and a Wii video game unit valued at $250.

Deputies investigated a report that someone stole a power saw valued at $850 and an air compressor valued at $175 from a 29-year-old man at a residence in the 1400 block of Fox Hollow Drive.
