An official at Sears, 3600 S. Memorial Drive, reported that someone tried to leave the store with several items of clothing valued at $342. After an investigation, police arrested Charles Thomas Shawn Trevena, 33, and Kimberly Mae Gurganus, both of 661 Old Snow Hill Road in Ayden. Each was charged with larceny and released from the Pitt County Detention Center on $500 bond.

Officers responded to a report that a man broke into a woman's home in the 800 block of McLawhorn Road on Wednesday and stole a laptop computer and accessories worth $2,520, along with several jewelry items valued at $440. Police arrested Marlon Demetrius Barnhill, 33, of 100 Clubway Drive and charged him with felony breaking and entering. Barnhill was held at the Pitt County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.

Deputies responded to a report that a 23-year-old woman was assaulted by her boyfriend at her home on Northwest Acres Drive, resulting in minor injuries. They arrested Daren Keith Riggs, 32 of 2630 Webb St. and charged him with assault on a female. Riggs was held at the Pitt County Detention Center on a $427 bond, the amount of child support detention center officials said he owes.
Deputies investigated a report that a 22-year-old woman was assaulted by her brother at her home on Louise Court in Fountain, resulting in minor injuries.
Deputies responded to a report that a 32-year-old man was assaulted by an acquaintance after a dispute involving several people at his home in the 900 block of Grimesland Bridge Road in Washington. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Gun stolen
Deputies investigated a report that someone forced entry into the home of a 21-year-old man in the 3200 block of Portertown Road on Wednesday and stole a Remington 12-gauge shotgun valued at $250.
