One of the many new pirate statues modeled after the East Carolina University mascot and on display at Pitt County businesses and organizations was stolen on Tuesday.
The University Book Exchange, located at 516 Cotanche St., reported that its purple and brown statue, valued at $2,500, was taken from its perch outside the store. The statue was one of 16 similar creations of the Painted Pirate Community Art Project from the recent annual PirateFest.

Officers responded to a report that someone entered the front door of a 20-year-old man's apartment in the 500 block of East Second Street on Tuesday and stole a computer valued at $515, a digital camera valued at $400, a video game console valued at $350, an autographed Pittsburgh Steelers jersey valued at $150, assorted video games valued at $350 and $40 in cash.
Officers investigated a report that someone stole the vehicle windows, valued at $500, off a 2003 Jeep Wrangler belonging to a 30-year-old man in the 2908 block of Cedar Creek Road on Tuesday.
Women assaulted
The Pitt County Sheriff's Office investigated two reports of women assaulted on Tuesday:
Deputies responded to a report that a 26-year-old woman was assaulted by her boyfriend at her home on Hannia Court in Grimesland. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Deputies investigated a report that a 41-year-old woman was uninjured when assaulted by her boyfriend at her home on Ambrose Lane in Farmville.
Auto theft
Deputies investigated a report that a 38-year-old man had his blue 2001 Ford Explorer, valued at $10,000, stolen by an acquaintance from his home in the 2700 block of Forest Glen Drive on Tuesday.
