Police investigating rape

The Daily Reflector

Saturday, May 03, 2008

Greenville Police officers investigated a report that a woman in her 50s was raped at her home by a man she knew and with whom she once shared the residence. A department spokesman said the investigation is continuing.

Greenville Police responded to two break-in and larceny incidents on Thursday:

Officers investigated a report of a burglary in the 2600 block of East Third Street. Someone pried open the front door of a 40-year-old man's residence and stole a television valued at $2,134 and currency.

Also, at a home in the 3800 block of Sterling Pointe Drive, officers responded when someone used a prying tool to enter a door into a 44-year-old man's home and stole two televisions valued at $700 and a jewelry box valued at $15.

Arrest made in assault

Officers arrested a man in connection with an assault on a woman at her E. Fifth Street home on Thursday. The woman was allegedly punched and thrown to the ground.

Officers later served an arrest warrant on Uchenna Ndubisi Uzoewulu, 21, of 1333 E. 10th St. and charged him with assault on a female and damage to property. He was held at the Pitt County Detention center on a $5,000 bond. No injuries were reported by the woman.

Kidnapping arrest made

Pitt County deputies arrested a Winterville man on a warrant for an alleged kidnapping incident on March 28, an investigator said.

Edward Louis Smith, 50, of 549 Milton Drive was charged with felony kidnapping and felonious restraint after a report that he followed a domestic dispute with a woman he had been dating for 15 years by threatening her and taking her in his truck to a dirt road off Old N.C. 11, Chief Investigator Lee Moore said. Smith allegedly tried to prevent her from leaving the truck, so she reportedly jumped out of it and passed out, remembering little of the incident after that point, Moore said.

Smith was held at the Pitt County Detention Center on a $15,000 bond.

Home larceny

Pitt County Sheriff's deputies investigated a report of home larceny in the 5300 block of Weyerhaueser Road in Ayden on Thursday. Someone took a Coleman generator valued at $700 from the 48-year-old woman's home.
